    Old Rectory update
Mechanical and electrical works are currently underway and the front extension timber construction has commenced.   Mark Pateman

CHANGE OF SERVICE TIMES/LOCATIONS AT BUSBRIDGE CHURCH
A reminder that changes are afoot at Busbridge Church from 14th January…

The Classic service remains in the church, but the start time is moving to 10.00am. The Busbridge Contemporary Service will also be starting at 10.00am but please go to Busbridge Junior School Hall for this one. Children will go to their groups at 10.15am – you’ll be advised in services on where and when to take them/collect them.

There are rumours of coffee, cake and prosecco at the Classic on the 14th (not every week!) and mystery possible offerings at the Contemporary. So it’s 10.00am now – don’t forget. If you turn up at 9.00am or 10.30am, everyone will know you don’t read the notices.

NB. No changes apply to Busbridge Quiet, the evening service or to either of the Hambledon services.

    A HUGE Thank you…
…to all involved in the multitude of Christmas services at Busbridge&Hambledon. Amazing efforts from everyone concerned, and we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you. Thanks again.

    Busbridge Advent Calendar
Also thank you to everyone who contributed a picture to the Busbridge advent calendar. There are obviously lots of very talented people out there! If you would like your picture back, you have until the end of January to collect it from the Church Office.

Ruth Bennett would like to thank everyone who has supported her following Linda’s sudden death. She has received dozens of messages, flowers and phone calls as well as practical help in a variety of ways. “Linda leaves a large gap but our friends are enormously valued.  Bless you all.”

    Old Rectory update
This week weather has disrupted works. However we have managed to concrete the slab to the front of the building and are continuing with internal demolition.   Mark Pateman

A reminder that the funeral for Linda Brown will be in Busbridge Church on Thursday 21st December at 11.00am. All who knew and loved Linda are warmly invited to the church service.

    Besom Hampers
A huge thank you to everyone who donated wonderful treats for the Besom hampers. On Wednesday night 20 of us gathered to wrap and make 27 hampers. These are now being given to Besom recipients along with members of our Parish. Thank you all for this wonderful mission. Robbie Hume (Channel for Mission).

    Weekday Carol Service
Did you know that a weekday afternoon carol service is held in Busbridge Church? This traditional service is hosted by Prime Time and is planned with the older generation in mind.  It is a service that is open to all, so please do consider if there is an older person known to you who you could invite along. This year’s service is taking place on Monday 18th December at 2.30pm. All welcome. And if added incentive were needed, mulled wine and mince pies will be served after the service! For further details or to book a place, contact Bryan or Penny in the Church office or email: primetime@bhcgodalming.org

We meet at 8.00pm in Busbridge Church Centre with a New Year drink and nibbles before the talk.  All are very welcome (including men).

There will be no Hambledon Prayer Breakfast this month but we will return to the normal routine in January of the 3rd Saturday of the month.

A reminder that we’ll be giving the Classic its 10.00am space from the second Sunday in Jan 2018 (14th). The Contemporary will meet in Busbridge Junior School Hall at 10.00am. We’re grateful to all those who have helped us reflect on the past two years and plan for the future.

    Message from Philippa Baker
Philippa sends heartfelt thanks to everyone who is helping them through this difficult time. So many kind people are involved with providing lifts and delicious meals, doing laundry and many other things. As a family, they are also aware of the amount of prayer which is being offered up on their behalf.  She, Andrew and the boys are grateful to a degree it is hard to express in words.  Thank you all so very much.

    SECRETT’S FARM TOUR: Thursday 1st June, 4.00pm
Charles Secrett has kindly offered the local community the opportunity to go behind the scenes of his Hurst Farm site in Milford and see what’s growing. It should be a very interesting tour; the farm not only supplies their own farm shop and PYO but also top restaurants in London, and Charles will no doubt be an entertaining host! The tour is primarily aimed at adults, but if older children would find it of interest they are very welcome to accompany their parents. There’ll be refreshments and a treat to bring home included afterwards. The whole event has been generously offered free of charge but you must book to reserve a place. Please contact: Cathy Brook editor@thebridgeonline.org.uk.

    Have you collected yours yet?
There are still copies of the Bridge to be collected from the back of Busbridge Church, plus a collection of various plates and containers from some recent events – if these are yours, please collect them sooner rather than later as we like a tidy looking church, especially with all the summer weddings coming up. Thank you!

    Great Godalming Duck Race!
Our very own Penny Naylor is taking the opportunity to attend the Great Godalming Duck Race on Saturday 20th May to promote the marvellous Befriending Network. Perhaps you were intending going along with your own duck? Or maybe this is the incentive to encourage you? Now keep an open mind about this request…Penny needs a collection of hardy souls who would be prepared to don the ’Buddy the dog’ costume at the befriending stall. The event is taking place at the Phillips Memorial Park and runs between 11.00am and 4.00pm – just supporting Penny for an hour of that time would be a great help. And if anyone doesn’t feel like becoming Buddy, people coming along to help distribute packs of tea and biscuits are also most welcome. Just an hour of someone’s time would make a big difference. Please email penny.naylor@bhcgodalming.org.

    Easter Collection: Open Doors
Thanks to everyone for their generosity with our Easter appeal for Open Doors. We raised £5000 when you include gift aid, which is a great result.

    Easter Garden Service
Nicky Hemery is co-ordinating a team of helpers to serve the tea at the Easter Garden service on Saturday 15th April, 3.00pm. If anyone would like to help, please get in touch with Nicky. We also need cakes, lots of cakes! So please get baking and bring your donations of cakes for the Saturday.

    Road to Easter…
…is back for another year at Hambledon (big thanks to Rog Matthews who has spearheaded this for the last few years). If you haven’t been before, this BHC Easter event is a series of thought-provoking installations in and around Hambledon Church. It is open for all of Holy Week and is a lovely activity to do for the whole family.

    Hot Cross Bun Family Adventure!
This year’s Hot Cross Bun Family Adventure will be from Hambledon Church to Busbridge Church on Good Friday (14th April) starting at 2.15pm. A brilliant event for the whole family (and dogs welcome too). It’s a great way of getting to know new people or catch up with old friends. Plus the cakes are nice when you finish the walk! All welcome.

    Hambledon Prayer Breakfast
A reminder that the Hambledon Prayer Breakfast on April 15th (Easter Saturday) will be at the usual time but will be just coffee/tea and a hot cross bun. All welcome.

Farewell to Michael & Amy Johnston – Sunday 23rd April
We would like as many of you as possible to come say farewell to both Amy and Michael at morning and evening services on 23rd April (yes, APCM day). After the 10.30am service there will be self-service tea and coffee available from the marquee by the centre. There are also rumours of doughnuts. Don’t miss the chance to say your goodbyes to these lovely people.

    Meals on Wheels
Ever thought about helping an older person by delivering lunch? Meals on Wheels is run by Waverley Council, who have asked if anyone would like to deliver lunch to a lonely elderly person in and around Godalming. No long term commitment required if you could only manage one delivery that would be a very generous and kind act for the community. To find out more please contact Mark Pateman mark.pateman@bhcgodalming.org.

    Christian Aid Week Co-ordinator needed
Channel for Mission are looking for a willing volunteer to co-ordinate the Busbridge end of Christian Aid week. Michael Stubbs has been doing this worthwhile job for the past four years but can no longer do it. What it involves… putting notices into the Notice Sheet, organising buckets in the church for donations, liaising with June Higgins over a house-to-house collection, and, perhaps, organising a sponsored walk (the Surrey Advertiser used to do one at the end of April), take part in CA’s Big Breakfast, or organising a coffee morning. Any offers to Robbie Hume, Sandra Campbell, Joanna Cookes, Jean Adams (Hambledon) or Shelagh Godwin.

    The APCM
A reminder that the APCM is coming up – have you put it in your diaries yet? It’s on Sunday 23rd April, Hambledon 10.30am, Busbridge 7.00pm and will follow directly after the services; 10.00am Hambledon, 6.30pm Busbridge. (You can go to either one – you don’t have to go to a particular congregation to attend. How exciting!)

    Stars in Their Eyes
If you missed this event you’ll be kicking yourselves! How often do you get the opportunity to see Tom Jones, Snow Patrol, Elvis(‘s), Elton John and more, all in one show?! It was an absolutely fantastic evening – thanks to everyone who performed, the judges, the punters, the voters, the bar staff, the setter-uppers and the taker-downers and most of all a HUGE thanks to the talented Tim Davies who put on such an entertaining event. Not only was it fun, fun, fun but it also raised an impressive £1700 for Old Rectory. Thank you!

Huge thanks to Carole Keating and her team of helpers for the lovely posies which they made for Mothering Sunday. Much appreciated by all the recipients – not only mothers!

    Notice from Busbridge Infant School…
Busbridge Infant School currently leaves the Hambledon Road and Rectory Gardens access gates open outside of school hours for the convenience of parents and local residents. There is no formal public right of way across the School. Due to recent vandalism, we will regrettably have to keep the Hambledon Road and Rectory Gardens access gates closed and locked outside of school hours. This means that it will not be possible to walk across the school grounds from Hambledon Road to Rectory Gardens and vice versa. The gates will be open from 7.00am to 9.10am and from 3.00pm to 5.00pm on school days. This will take effect from 5.00pm on Friday, 31st March 2017.

    The APCM

    Old Rectory update
We are delighted to announce that two developments occurred in the past week or so. Last Monday the PCC voted to approve the project up to the amount which has been raised so far and planning permission was granted on Wednesday. The Old Rectory team are now looking at costs and priorities and will share this information with the church as soon as we have it.

    What can you do?
    · Give thanks and pray for those involved in the planning (from Old Rectory team members through to the Waverley Planners)
    · Approach Mark Williams to offer to help with an Action Team
    · Contact Dudley Hilton to offer to support and care for Probation Service people with us every Wednesday and which started last week
    · We appreciate many have given financially, but the Team are keen for anyone who is able to set up a monthly direct debit of any amount for the project to do so, as this will help with longer term planning
    · Pray that this project will honour the Living God who intervenes in our lives and will give us confidence in our faith

    Space for God
Is this prayer event in your diary too? Tuesday 4th April, 8.00pm – 9.00pm, Busbridge Church.

This year’s Hot Cross Bun Family Adventure will be from Hambledon Church to Busbridge Church on Good Friday (14th April) starting at 2.15pm. We are looking for some help with serving tea and/or making cakes. Offers please to Frances Shaw, frances.shaw@bhcgodalming.org.

    Nexus

    Lent Devotional Study

Bishop Michael Baughen has provided copies of his 30 day devotional study on 2 Timothy for the church at a discount rate of £3. New Head Teacher for Busbridge Junior School

A team of governors are actively working to find a new head for our great school. Please pray that their actions and decisions will be in strong alignment with God’s plan for the school and for our community.

    Old Rectory

2 weeks to go to our March 5th Anniversary Service!

    Prayer:

As you may have read in the notices last week, we are holding a week of 24/7 prayer coverage starting at 10.00pm on 1st March. You don’t have to be anywhere in particular – pray at home, on the train, at work, wherever. The idea is simply that one (or more) people in our church will be praying for the future of our church at all times during these few days. We have an online prayer calendar. Sign up now at www.24-7prayer.com/signup/9545ad and choose which slot(s) you’ll pray (multiple people can pray at the same time, so choose whenever you like).  Let’s work together as a church to pray continually over that time!

    Action:

We have reached an impressive milestone that approximately 60% of the Busbridge&Hambledon Church congregation have contributed to the Busbridge Central / Old Rectory project. THANK YOU! There are just two more weeks in our push to complete funding for the Old Rectory development – plans are ready, we’d like to start building work ASAP.

Only 1 person responded to the following notice…is there really no one else who can help?! Come on!

150th Celebration March 5th Can you help with any of the following?

    · We need a few easy assemble pop-up gazebos to supplement the existing marquees as a wet weather contingency. Can you lend one?

    · Could you help keep the roads safe as a parking marshal before the service (you will be fully briefed)?

    · Could you be part of a team clearing up on the Sunday afternoon?

If you can help with any of these please get in touch with Janine Bailey on 07941 131162 or 150th@bhcgodalming.org

    Celebration Service

Join us for our celebration service in Busbridge Church at 10.00am on Sunday 5th March, with special activities for children. Following the main service there will be a short ceremony in the Old Rectory Garden to mark its future role in Busbridge Church’s ministry, with coffee and anniversary cake. All are very welcome.

This will be followed by a Spring BBQ lunch to which all are welcome, whether or not they have attended the service. To help with planning for the lunch please let us know if you will be joining us by emailing 150th@bhcgodalming.org with “service” as your message title, or sign up in the back of church.

    Celebration Service

Join us for a celebration service in Busbridge Church at 10.00am on Sunday 5th March, with special activities for children.

To help with planning for the lunch please let us know if you will be joining us by emailing 150th@bhcgodalming.org with “service” as your message title, or sign up in the back of church (Busbridge).

    · We need a few easy assemble pop-up gazebos to supplement the existing marquees as a wet weather contingency. Can you lend one?

    Old Rectory
Only 3 weeks to go to our March 5th Anniversary Service

Prayer: As we approach the 150th anniversary of Busbridge Church, pray that God will bless the future of our church and that each of us will find our role as we build for that future

Action: We have various activities planned for the anniversary celebrations.

    150 years…75hours…24/7prayer

    So what’s the deal?

March 1st – 8.00pm, Ash Wednesday is the 150th Anniversary of Busbridge Church. We’re calling every member of the church to worship at 8.00pm and/or come at 9.00pm for a whole church 40 minutes of prayer for Old Rectory and the future.

From the end of the Ash Wednesday Service at 9.00pm we plan to cover the following 75 hours in  24/7 prayer to commit the coming years and future of the church to God’s directing.

    So that means…

24/7 prayer from 9.00pm Wednesday 1st March to

    midnight Saturday 4th March 2017

When we pray, God hears us – we’re starting a conversation with the Creator of the universe.

When we pray, we partner with God to seek his Kingdom.

24/7   What – me? Pray for a whole hour?

When you pray – here are some tips…

    · Recognise your attention span and work with it

    · Brew up a cuppa? Spend a brief time being quiet and still. Our Father God is very happy to spend time with you

    · Give thanks and count your blessings

    · Read a portion of Scripture e.g. Psalm 23, Psalm 25, Psalm 37:1 – 7, Ephesians 3:14 – 20

    · Take strength and comfort from what you read

    · Pray for the Church and our future. There will be a bullet point information sheet available

“I sought the Lord and He answered me”

    Psalm 34:4

What you can do right now is sign up for the 24/7 Prayer Week. We have an online prayer calendar, sign up now by going to www.24-7prayer.com/signup/9545ad and choosing which slot(s) you’ll pray. Let’s work together as a church to pray continually over that time!

You’re missing out!! Get on the email list!
Would you like to get the notices by email each week? This bit of paper you are holding can only hold so much information and there’s usually quite a bit of overflow that you only find out about if you get the weekly email. To go on the list contact karen.kinder@bhcgodalming.org.

    Prayer Triplets
Caroline Luard has been charged with finding out how many people in Busbridge&Hambledon are involved in prayer triplets/partners. It would be very helpful if you could drop her a quick email if you are in one. Email cluard@hotmail.co.uk
