Summer Holiday Combined Services start next Sunday…
This summer the 10am Busbridge Combined service will take place in the Busbridge Junior School hall starting Sunday 28 July.  Classic and Contemporary congregations worship together, in a format that includes elements of both styles of worship.  Children’s groups stop in the holidays but there will be activities and good  space for our young ones.  Hambledon will have one morning service at 9am on Sundays in August.

    Prayerfest 0-30 in 60
We meet for “prayerfest”  this evening, Sunday 21 July,     5-6pm in the Old Rectory to pray for an hour, particularly focusing on those involved in children and young people’s ministry in our churches and communities.
    Please:
    – Come along and pray if you can –  for all or part of this hour
    – Forward prayer requests to Shan so that our prayer time can be relevant and informed. (see the notices attached to the email for Shan’s email).

We look forward to seeing those who can come  for the final meeting this term.  There is plenty for us to pray about as this term comes to a close and the excitement of new appointments to the staff team etc.  Please note that we do not meet during the month of August.

    Busbridge Reordering Update
The new oak floor is almost laid, and looking rather lovely!  The floor conceals approximately 1.5 miles of cabling which will enable the new audio visual equipment.  The new chairs will be arriving in the coming weeks in readiness for the formal reopening on 8 September (and the weddings before).

A large number of the items the church no longer needs found new homes on Sunday but there are still a lot left over.  Do contact Michael if you would like to know what is left or would be happy to help sell the items via eBay or Gumtree etc.. e: michealeashing@aol.com

Marvellous Movie Matinee next Saturday, 27 July
This one’s for grown-ups—look out for the flyer for a clue to this wartime epic showing.  Free of charge, with popcorn!

Nexus visit to the Hogs Back Brewery
A final reminder about our visit  to the Hogs Back Brewery on Thursday 1 August, 6.30 – 8.30pm.  A chance to have a guided tour around this local brewery with the opportunity to sample some of their renowned beers.  Husbands / partners are welcome to come along too.  There are just a few places left on this tour, so please get in touch with Kate Kaye, e: katekaye2@btinternet.com as soon as possible.  The cost is £15, payable in advance, and this includes a Hogs Back beer glass to take home!  We’re going to the Withies in Compton for a bar meal afterwards if you’d like to join us.

Churches Together Bandstand service, Sunday 11 August
On the Burys at 10.30 am.  (No morning services at Busbridge or Hambledon this Sunday).  Help is needed for this event, setting up (chairs), stewarding, refreshments, and clearing up afterwards. If you can help please let Michael Stubbs know: michealeashing@aol.com.

Busbridge Church reopening celebration, 8 September…!
A call for all worshippers at Busbridge&Hambledon Church to be at the Special Combined reopening celebration on 8 September.  There will be no other morning services at Busbridge church, and the 9am Heritage Service at Hambledon will start at the earlier time of 8.30am.  There will be activities for all our young people during the service, and a Hog Roast lunch will follow shortly after.  Ink the date in now!

There will be a celebration at Hambledon on Sunday 15 September, for the licensing of Simon Willetts as Associate Minister.  We are expecting a full church for the service at 6pm, and seats will be limited, but everyone is invited to come to Clock Barn Farm afterwards for light refreshments.

Looking further ahead…we’d love to run another Light Party in October half term.  (More than 80 children came last year!)  If you’d like to help with this or better still,  to lead it, then please let the church office know in the next week.

    PCC News
A huge thank you to Chad Grayer, Carol Jones, Ellis Jones, Tom Jones, and Ruth Roseblade for their hard work on the plans and designs for the Church Centre.  After a full and very detailed discussion the PCC made the decision to go ahead with works to create facilities for a coffee drop in as soon as possible (after one final query has been checked with the church authorities).  Watch this space for more details…

    I could use that!
As a result of the reordering, we’ve had a good sort out and  have quite a lot of things that the church no longer needs.  Before  we put  them on eBay/Gumtree etc we thought you might like to see what there is, as it might just be what you have been looking for!  Do come along and have a look outside the Church Centre this morning (14 July).  For more information contact Michael on michaeleashing@aol.com.

Marriage Course starting 12 September 2019

Everything of value needs some care and a little polishing up now again, and marriages are no different.  The HTB marriage course is now run nationally, and comes highly recommended by those who have done it at BHC in recent years.  It’s fun and humorous as well as insightful, so they say!  There are seven evening sessions (every other Thursday), where couples will be wined and dined in the romantic setting of the Old Rectory.  NO GROUP DISCUSSION involved.  More info to follow, but please register your interest or find out more from David and Sandra Wilkin: davidkswilkin@outlook.com or Mark and Linda Alcock: mlja@sky.com.

Congratulations to Liz Gorst in her wonderful metamorphoses into co-ordinating all our great facilities across BusbridgeandHambledon and helping us use them well for the Gospel.  If you have queries about anything other than facilities please now direct them to Cat (weddings, funerals, baptisms, worship organisation), Jenny (safeguarding, DBS, GDPR, admin for work with young people) or Vic (activities, notices, communicating things).

“How effective is the (Busbridge Junior) school’s distinctive Christian vision … in enabling pupils and adults to flourish?”  This week the Chair of Governors at our lovely church school was pleased to tell parents that the recent SIAMS inspection (8 May 2019) judged the effectiveness of the school’s Christian vision to be ‘Good’.  Well done to the school leadership team and all involved.  Keep up the good (God’s!) work! The following is an excerpt from a letter to parents and carers from Ron Downhill, Chair of Governors.

”Your school , being a church school, does of course have a Christian ethos. Church schools undergo formal inspections every five years (SIAMS) “How effective is the school’s distinctive Christian vision, established and promoted by leadership at all levels, in enabling pupils and adults to flourish?”… Our motto is “Cherish and Challenge” – to be a school that reflects the love of Christ: cherishing each other as unique individuals and challenging all to achieve and succeed. A SIAMS inspection of our School was made on 8 May 2019 www.busbridge-junior.surrey.sch.uk/web/siams/150242... As Chair of Governors, I am pleased to report that the Inspector has rated the effectiveness of the school’s Christian vision overall to be ‘Good’, indeed Mrs Jenkins indicated that the school’s overall rating was only marginally short of being the aspirationally high grading of ‘Excellent’. You will see that in particular she considers the teaching and learning of RE to be exceptionally well lead and highly effective. She considers that the school’s collective worship is, like RE, an important element of the school and that the school’s leadership enables pupils and adults to flourish.

A practical idea to aid your prayer life!

The blue prayer kneelers from Busbridge Church are not needed anymore – but if you would like to have one for yourself and/or your children with a deliberate intention to pray more – please contact the church office.  As you kneel to pray you may like to include a prayer for the reordering of the church over the coming weeks.

ABC Stay & Play toddler groups—helpers needed

There are many who enjoy these groups as children and parents, and it’s an ever evolving ministry.  Tuesday and Friday morning groups now enjoy spilling out onto the Old Rectory garden, and numbers are growing.  If you would like to join the team of helpers who represent the church, please speak to Juliet (juliet.gilbert@bhcgodalming.org).

    Christian Aid collection

We are very grateful to everyone who contributed to the collection for Christian Aid on 12th May. £380 was collected, and this will go towards providing health centres and clinics for impoverished communities in Sierra Leone. This money could literally save lives!

    New Associate Minister

We are delighted to announce that after a careful and prayer-filled interview process we have offered the Associate Minister post to an excellent person. We can give no further details at present but the candidate has accepted subject to clear references, DBS and granting of the Bishop of Guildford’s License.  The person is ideal for the role; based at Hambledon Church and living and being present in the village; overseeing small groups, evangelism and developing mentoring. We envisage that this is be a long-term appointment but it is currently for a period of five years.

    Busbridge Church closed for re-ordering

HUGE thanks to everyone who is helping with the Busbridge Church reordering. Over 20 people rolled up on Monday to empty the church. Half a dozen different people at any one time have been in the church all week cutting, preparing, lifting and sweeping. We are hugely grateful to Michael Stubbs and Simon Gilbert for giving up their week to oversee this. This is the first stage of a long process. If you’d like to donate funds to the work speak to Martin Lambert – we’re just a little short of the target.

While the church and the centre is closed for re-ordering, we will make full use of the wonderful facilities in the Old Rectory for regular worship and other activities.  Please check the listings for any change of venues.  Please note:

    · As the church centre is off limits, the council will use the Old Rectory as a polling station this Thurs 23 May.

    · Daily prayers for peace at 5pm continue in the Latimer Room in the Old Rectory whenever Shelagh Godwin is available. People wishing to come should check with Shelagh first.

An update about staff vacancies at the Old Rectory: we have offered posts for some office roles in the last few days and we will give more information in due course. Please continue to pray for the youth ministry interviews next week.

As Karen Kinder is leaving her role as Communications Manager next week, it is a likely scenario that there will be no printed notices until her replacement is firmly in post (no date as yet). During this time, the team at the Old Rectory will only be able to send out a ‘lite notices’ via email – if you don’t already receive the notices by email and would like to go on the list please email communication@bhcgodalming.org. If you have notices that you want included in the future, you’ll also need to use the above email. Thanks for your understanding as we adjust to staff changes.

Come to the next Women’s Film Night on Tuesday 26th February, 7.30pm. We’ll think about and discuss the question ‘What are the roots of our fear and judgement of others?’ Intriguing…even more so because we’re considering this question by watching a comedy! As well as a great discussion there are free snacks, tea and coffee and a chance to meet a great bunch of diverse women. Babes in arms very welcome too! Places limited. Contact ladies@bhcgodalming.org for more information or to book your space.

Pick a Pew and Put a Pledge on a Pew. On Sunday 10th March, perambulate to peer at pews. The PCC need to produce a plan to procure permanent places for the pews. So need people to purchase pews or parts of pews. Period of perusal is 11.15am-12.30pm. Precise parameters and provisos will be present and procedures for procurement will be presented to persons possibly pledging and payment for the pews. Numbers limited so pledge protects pew purchase. Please take part and participate in this particular presentation. Or contact Michael Stubbs!

A reminder that there is a service change at Hambledon on 3rd March – Please come along at 9.00am to have your say about the Associate Minister role.

On Thursday 7th March, Nexus welcomes Michael Baughen, a retired Bishop, a composer of hymns and an author, who is coming to talk to us. Do join us to learn something of Michael’s life story and his calling to ordained ministry; his passion for his faith, and his many other interests. We meet at 8.00pm in Busbridge Church Centre. All are very welcome.

We are putting together an Easter Choir to support Easter Day Services at Busbridge. Rehearsals for the Classic 9.00am service will be held on either Mondays or Thursdays at 8.00pm. The Contemporary material for the 10.30am service will be rehearsed separately during a Choir Workshop event on  Saturday 30th March. All are welcome. If you’d like to be involved, or to find out more about either choir or the Choir Workshop in March, contact Julie Nelson.
